Because it's been a while since this one went by, it's the return of ask my characters anything/tell me something I don't know about them. Because, hey, why not?

Mal and Sallie Reynolds, yo.

Mal: If you could, or had to, go back and change one thing about your life, what would it be?

Sallie: Who was Mal's father? And what happened to him?

Mal: Become an officer before the War instead of simply enlisting.

Steph's addendum to Mal's answer: If he'd been an officer, he'd have automatically been in a higher leadership position - done more good. In his mind, anyway.

Sallie: Mal's father, Beauregard Reynolds, is a drunkard and a liar. I didn't know about his drinking problem and financial troubles until I married him, and we lost the ranch we lived on at first, then moved around on Shadow until we picked up underdeveloped land that the Reynolds Ranch is now on. When Malcolm was about seven, Beau tried to sell the ranch out from under his son and I to cover gambling debts. I was able to stop him and divorced him, even though I don't believe in divorce.

I don't know where he is. Mal knows why we divorced, but believes his father is dead.
